Single Review: Seven Summits – Burning Heart

Seven Summits – ‘Burning Heart’

Seven Summits have had a busy year in 2010. After their solid self-titled debut, they recruited some new members, played Glastonbury, and received praise from the BBC. Not bad eh? Last week, the Belfast four piece released brand new single ‘Burning Heart’, which is taken from their upcoming second album.

I don’t know too much about the second album yet, but if it’s as meticulously produced as this blast of sunshine rock, it’s bound to be good. Most bands might scorn at a comparison like the one I’m about to make, but it’s a massive compliment in my eyes. The bridge of ‘Burning Heart’ could totally have been written and recorded by the new adult Take That, it’s massively expansive and floaty, and with an Ash-esque chorus, ‘Burning Heart’ is one of the best pop-rock tunes of 2010. Shame I’d already made my year-end songs list before I heard it. It could’ve been a contender.

And I didn’t even mention the tongue-in-cheek Weezer reference…

[xrr rating=4/5]

Seven Summits play QUB tonight (December 16th) and will play upstairs in Whelan’s tomorrow.
