Let’s get one thing straight. The last U2 album was a horrendous pile of crap. Their recent material hasn’t been too bad (How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb and All That You Can’t Leave Behind) were both decent albums. Rumour has it that 2011 will see the release of a Dangermouse-produced record, which sounds like it could be awful.
So what do us U2 fans listen to instead? ‘Praise Be’ by the Plea, taken from their upcoming debut album, set for release in March. It has everything that made those Atomic Bomb-era U2 tracks great, and is produced by Chris Potter, who has worked with the Verve, the Rolling Stones, Blur, and U2.
They’re a four-piece from Ballyliffen in County Donegal, and centre around brothers Denny and Dermot Doherty. You can download the track for free below. They are definitely going to be one of the breakout Irish acts of 2011. You can quote me on that.
