Download: The Kanyu Tree – People Street (Jape Remix)

I’m always keeping a keen eye on the music other Irish bloggers are talking about. Super-blogger and IT journo Jim Carroll mentioned this song earlier today while promoting the On the Record Presents: 2012 gig at the Twisted Pepper on March 2nd. That’s March 2nd this year, not 2012. Wonder why it’s called Presents 2012? Surely these bands are set for great things this year?

Anyhow, the lineup contains Jennifer Evans, Daithi, and the Kanyu Tree. Yes, the Kanyu Tree, remember them? 2UIBestow and myself picked the Galweigan popsters in our Irish Sound of 2009.

Back then we said
“If there is justice in the world, this summer should be the summer of the Kanyu Tree. Their songs are a pop masterclass. The band is a trio of Galweigan brothers (the Cluskeys). Last year they supported The Hold Steady (where I found out about them), The Feeling, Ocean Colour Scene, The Bluetones and the Stunning. 2009 can only get better. If you’ve heard them, you’ll know why. If not, get to their MySpace page now and download ‘Crocodile’. A sing-along sensation. Check them out at a free gig in Whelan’s on 21st of January, 2009.”

Today, Jim said:
“brand new-ish Galway trio with a dab hand when it comes to smart pop tunes, sunshine riffs and sweet-as-a-nut arrangements. You can check out Jape’s remix above or wait for their debut single “Radio” which is released in April. Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest has done some production work on their forthcoming debut album. ”

So a debut album is finally on the way? Excellent. But until then, have a listen to Jape’s remix of their song ‘People Street’, a free download from Bandcamp.

  1. I loved Tanglewood. Thought these dudes had split up.

  2. Yeah, I thought they had become one of Ireland long-lost should’ve been great bands. But with a new “debut” single due, they’re going to be bigger than ever. Especially with the backing of Richie Egan and Jim Carroll!
