Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played the first of two shows at the RDS last night, where there were many musical highlights and even a wonderful send-up of their Hyde Park gig with a English policeman coming on stage during ‘Twist and Shout’ in the encore to stop the show early. Instead, Bruce grabbed a contract from his hands and tore it up onstage. The policeman proceeded to pull the plug ahead of final track ‘American Land’, but the band plugged it back in and played almost right up to 11.00. (Check it out in the video for AL below)
Sign requests saw ‘I’m a Rocker’ and ‘Prove It All Night’ played early in the set, while a Wrecking Ball Tour debut of ‘My Hometown’ was dedicated to Bono and U2. There were many highlights in the over three-hour set, with new songs ‘Death to My Hometown’ and ‘We Take Care of Our Own’ standing out near the start as the band and crowd warmed up. The peak however was a wonderful 8 song encore, including both Borns and a stellar version of ‘Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)’.
A triumphant return to Dublin, leaving fans even more excited about the second gig tonight.
