Single Review: Luan Parle – Why Baby Why

Luan Parle – ‘Why Baby Why’

Luan Parle is back with a new album, The Full Circle, on September 17th.  Ahead of that, the lead single ‘Why Baby Why’ comes out August 20th, and can be downloaded from her official website.

‘Why Baby Why’ is a smoky taste of Americana-inspired pop. It’s like one of those Miranda Lambert or Gretchen Wilson numbers with an up-tempo, radio chorus. The chorus is what makes the song stick in the memory, with it’s easy sing-along “why baby why/cry baby cry” refrain. But it’s the rest of the song that makes it stand out, not least the harmonica and guitar duel two minutes in.

The verses are wonderful too, with a little bit of piano never smothering the song nor the vocals. This gives me great hope for Parle’s new release, which is the follow-up to her much lauded 2007 debut Free. If it’s anywhere as good as the debut or the lead single, it should be great.
