Download: The Difference Engine – Elephant Island

With a band name based on either a William Gibson steampunk novel or an early mathematical calculator and songs inspired by Ernest Shackleton, the Difference Engine are a different breed of Irish band. You can tell this from the opening horns of new single ‘Elephant Island’. It’s an accessible pop song (despite the lyrics of Antarctic expedition) with a wonderful hook, and marks the band out as an Irish Hoosiers or Scouting for Girls. Only much cleverer and less obnoxious. The video is pretty damn good too.
