Album News: B-Movie Lightning – Take Yourself to the City EP

Selected by Irish Blog Award 2011 finalist 2uibestow and myself as one of the Irish Sounds of 2011, Mike Smalle’s B-Movie Lightning have just released a gorgeous new EP, Take Yourself to the City. It features the title track as well as three splendid remixes, and costs just €3 from bandcamp. You can take a listen below too!

Smalle’s vocals are wonderful on the track, and it has a lovely floaty feel. I think it’d be right up Peter 2uibestow’s alley. On that note, congrats to him and fellow DSA Organiser Nay “Harmless Noise” McArdle for making the final five best music blogs in Ireland.

B-Movie Lightning’s thirteen track debut album is due on Micropolis Records in April, and was mixed by Ian Catt of Saint Etienne.

Is this the best album you have heard in while or not? I think it is. Started slowly, but after 3 listens I found the tunes lodged all day in my brain. ‘Footfalls at Echo Park’ is an outstanding track. ‘Take yourself to the city’ is a straight-up radio hit. But ‘Spooky West’ does it for me every time.
