The Band drummer and backing vocalist Levon Helm died last night in New York City after a struggle with cancer. He was aged 71, and will be remembered for his beautiful rhythm work with the Band, as well as his wonderful country voice which really came to the fore on his solo records, particularly 2007′s Dirt Farmer and 2009′s Electric Dirt.
Arguably the best years of the Band were 1964-1976, when they first toured the globe, releasing the classic records Music from the Big Pink, The Band, and leading up to The Last Waltz. This concert bootleg comes from that period, and contains many of their best loved tunes, as well as a guest appearance from the legendary Van Morrison.
This concert was uploaded by Pino27 of the excellent Spanish bootleg blog Into a Blue Haze back in December 2011. Some of the links for it still work (the two I’ve posted below), and the password for the .rar archive is “stayrock” without the quotes. Enjoy!
