It’s a bold claim, but I genuinely believe that Taylor Swift’s Speak Now is one of the greatest pop albums ever. Swift’s third album is a triumph of pop perfection, so news of a follow-up is sure to be warmly greeted. Red is set for release on October 22nd, but the lead single has been leaked online, and is now onsale on iTunes. Called ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ it’s another classic break-up song from Swift, although it’s probably not about Taylor Lautner, John Mayer, or Jake Gyllenhaal, and more likely just a general story of breaking-up and making-up that will resonate with global teens. “Like ever.” The whopping chorus is surely to make it one of the biggest pop hits of the year; it’s more pop than country, and is probably a good indication of what the album will be like.
The album is due to have 16 songs as well as a duet with Ed Sheeran. As for the title, Swift had this to say: “All the different emotions that are written about on this album are all pretty much about the kind of tumultuous, crazy, insane, intense, semi-toxic relationships that I’ve experienced in the last two years. All those emotions — spanning from intense love, intense frustration, jealousy, confusion, all of that — in my mind, all those emotions are red. You know, there’s nothing in between. There’s nothing beige about any of those feelings.”
